Theresa was just a little nervous about the monorail ride over to the
island.
There was a blues band playing on the island, and we listened to them
for over an hour. The Daddy Mack Blues Band is the 'house-band' for the
Memphis Red Birds (Triple A affiliate of St.Louis), and they were wonderful.
We bought their CD, and listened to it the whole trip. Harold,
Wolf, Hot-Licks ,Mack & James
James told us the best ribs in Memphis were at the Blues City Cafe on Beale Street. He was right!
Theresa spent a good part of this trip hugging people. Street singers, doormen, it didn't seem to matter!
Here she is outside the Blues City Cafe ...and
inside..
We stayed 'down on Beale Street' for about 4 hours, looking for Elvis, and listening to street bands. There are lots of old buildings which have only the front walls still standing. These walls are 'propped-up', and used as storefronts for the newer ground level shops.
The next morning we were up at 4 AM, wondering why. We decided to go
over into Arkansas, looking for breakfast and cheap diesel. We found neither,
but we did manage to find Graceland.
The
fence at the front of the house was about 300 feet long, and every square
inch was autographed. Here is Theresa adding hers.
We rode the Trolly around downtown, and saw ...
the Peabody Ducksthe
Pyramid
and
a sign
We had lunch at Corkey's, the #1 rated BBQ ribs in
Memphis. Now I know a thing or two about BBQ, right?...Well I can assure
you that the "voting" must have been rigged!
.....and then we were off
to New Orleans!
